To my dear friend Martin,
This website is a humble tribute to your greatness as a human being. It is very important that your life experiences be shared with the entire world. After suffering unspeakable horrors and tragedies you gathered the strength to keep on going, become an accomplished artist, poet, author and speaker. Most importantly you made it your life's mission to constantly remind us that we must always remember.
I will never forget the moment when we met as the result of my Meitchet's family research and how proud I felt when I found out that your maternal grandfather was my paternal great granmother's brother. I am honored in being related to you! You are an inspiration to all of us and honor me with your friendship and love, both of which I treasure.
Martin passed away on November 29, 2008. His sweetness and compassion touched the hearts of everyone he had contact with. He was a part of my life and will be sorely missed. |

Martin Small's life is a true hero's journey. He has seen joy and pain, suffering and redemption, love and hate, peace and war. As with all hero's, his story is one to ponder, making us contemplate the very nature of man and his capacity to act in unimaginable ways and under inconceivable conditions. Martin's life story, Remember Us, is a work of great insight and reflection. Yet, through it all, I am reminded of the words of Nobel Peace Prize recipient Elie Wiesel, when he said "I tell you this not so that you will understand but so you know that you can never understand." A deep sense of gratitude goes out to Dr. Rubio for creating this website out of selfless devotion to a greater cause. |

Martin Small has not only made a difference in my children's lives; but has made such a significant impact in my life as well. Martin and Doris are a big part of our lives and we wish we could find the right words to say thank you to both of them for all they have done for my family and me. When I think of compassion, honesty, love, confidence, sincerity, etc., Martin always comes to mind. I am privileged to know him and honored to be loved by him. After reading his book, Martin is a split image of his father. How he lived his life and how he has treated all those around him. My dearest friend, I love you, adore you and inspire to live my life through your eyes. My kids are better individuals just being around you. You will always be in my heart and in my soul. Love always! |

This is my beloved grandfather, that as a child I thought of him as just my loving grandpa. Now as I have grown to understand as an adult, he's my hero. |
