'ALWAYS IN MY HEART' by Martin Small

When I was a young man
So much pain and terror
Did my eyes behold
The sky had bled from white to black
In my “Schtetele Meichet”
Hilter’s soldiers began their attack

Every cranny and corner
Was filled with fear
And we lost our grasp
Of all things we held most dear
They took our men
Our brothers and fathers
Never to be seen again

With every passing day
Dear mother I miss you more
And with hope and longing for you
I still open my door
With each passing night
Dear mother I miss you more
You guide my hand to the candle
At every “Yiskor” time

Dear mother!
You’ll never vanish from my sight
My soul’s filled with your spirit
Which shall forever burn bright

The smiles of your grandchildren
Never warmed your heart
From those deserver joys
Those butchers tore us apart
“Grandma ---- Grandpa”
You never heard said
Your son and your daughters
You never saw wed

Now like winter trees
We shed our leaves as a tear
And like mothers before us
We too shall disappear

But --- one blossoming miracle
Still gives us reason to sing
When we hear:
“Grandma ---- Great Grandma”
“Grandpa ----- Great Grandpa”
And again it is spring
Our dear Family
And so much love
